“Find a job you like and you add five days to every week.”
~ H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
With Labor Day being celebrated in the U.S. this Monday, now is as good of a time as ever to look at your career. When I read quotes like the one above from H. Jackson Brown, Jr. I always ask myself, “Why am I doing what I’m doing?”
It sounds pretty obvious that you should work at a job that you love, but truly only half of us do. A recent survey from the Conference Board found that only 47.2% of workers today are satisfied with their job and only 15.4% are very satisfied. Worse yet, almost 80% of those surveyed said they expected to be in their current job next year even though a majority of those 80% are dissatisfied with their jobs!
From working with clients over the years, I truly believe that it is important to work where you love because where you work impacts your finances. Doing something you love will help your earning potential and allow you to grow in your career instead of working the same old job and trying just to get through the day. So if you are dissatisfied with your job, ask yourself, “Why?” take the steps necessary to make changes in your career and start to add five days back into your week.
