In starting and running JW’s Financial Coaching I have started to be known as a “money” guy. It is well deserved because one of the main things I do when I work with people is to teach them how to handle their money better. The funny thing with that is, and you might not believe this, but even though I am the “money” guy, personal finance is really not about the money.
Then what is personal finance about, you might ask. Well to change how you are handling and viewing your money it is more about behavior change than about the math. Once you realize that and change how you are spending, planning, and earning your money other areas of your life will be impacted as well.
Your marriage will start to get better because instead of arguing about money, you will start to actually communicate and have a plan.
Your career will improve because you will be able to actually focus on completing your work instead of worrying how you will make rent this month.
Your faith will improve because you will be able to give more and focus on what you were created to do on this planet.
Your children will be impacted because they will see how to properly handle money and see the peace it brings into the home. Only after these changes in your lifestyle occur will you notice a change in your bank account.
As you can see, money impacts all areas of your life. You just can not compartmentalize money and pretend like it does not impact other parts of your life. But personal finance is about more than just the money. Having more money will not help your marriage, career, faith, or family life. But learning how to handle your money better will open up those areas of your life and then the money will flow.
